How do I get an appointment with Dr. Hamilton for pregnancy care?
If you do not have a family doctor, you may call for an appointment without a referral required. If you have had any investigations (blood work, ultrasounds) during the current pregnancy, please bring this information along with you to your first appointment.
If you have a family doctor or are seen at a walk in clinic, please have them provide you with a signed referral letter and bring it with you to your first appointment along with copies of any investigations done during your current pregnancy.
Will Dr. Hamilton become my family doctor after the birth of my child?
For those patients that do not have a family doctor, Dr. Hamilton is usually able to provide care for you and you infant for two years after the birth. This includes all routine infant care and immunizations and any illnesses during this time period. There are some family doctors, who work closely with Dr. Hamilton that may be able to assume your care after this two year time period. For patients referred from other doctors, you will return to the care of your family physician after the birth of your baby.
What if I am or become a high-risk pregnancy?
Dr. Hamilton works closely with the obstetricians and if a risk factor is present or develops during the pregnancy or labour, a referral will be made to these specialists to help with the management of your care. If you require a caesarean section, Dr. Hamilton will usually assist with the surgery and subsequent care of your newborn directly following the surgery.
What if I want an Obstetrician or Midwife to deliver my baby? Will Dr. Hamilton still follow me for my pregnancy?
No. Dr. Hamilton respects both of these highly trained health professionals, but if patients are planning this type of care – please arrange these appointments and appropriate referrals elsewhere. Again, if you are seeing Dr. Hamilton for your care and a risk factor develops during the pregnancy or during labour which requires an obstetrician’s advice, a referral will be made for their guidance with your care.
In the event, Dr. Hamilton is not available to deliver my baby when I am in labour, who will deliver my baby?
Dr. Hamilton always has an excellent team of qualified physicians available to cover his labouring patients if he is not available.
